HBHG Development Trust was setup in 2002 along with its first social enterprise, Broughton D@TAbase. The inspiration for the HBHG Development Trust Ltd and its dedicated training centre began at a meeting where a resident summarised the feeling in the area by saying that local people had ‘no hope’. People feel there is no point in training because there are no jobs and if you went for a job you often came across 'postcode prejudice'.
'We aim to develop a 'learning community', thereby increasing citizenship, entrepreneurship and employment. We will do this by providing local opportunities for personal and skill development and by promoting and supporting community groups and networks.' Broughton D@TAbase provides training to help improve employment prospects, to provide employment opportunities with the organisation through the trainee trainer programmes and to help people achieve qualifications. Other services include training, meeting room hire, computer and equipment sales (coming soon) and consultancy.
